problems with nagios install in SME8
« on: October 21, 2009, 08:01:14 AM »
I've tried to install as per wiki http://wiki.contribs.org/Nagios

unfortunately I found this error when I tried to localinstall
Code: [Select]
Error: Missing Dependency: libttf.so.2 is needed by package nagios-3.2.0-1.el4.rf.i386 (dag)

all info about libttf.so.2 found is something into legacy forum from 2005
any workaround will be appreciate

If you test SME 8 Contribs, you should not post in the forums, it is explicitly stated that you should file a bug for it in the bugtracker: http://wiki.contribs.org/SME8.0_Contribs_QA#Test_guidelines

Posts on them certainly do not belong into the SME 7.x related forums. Moving to General Discussion where it is more appropriate.

search with Google for "libttf.so.2 centos5 nagios", you'll find many results.. :-)

Your forum/wiki account does not work with bugzilla. You need to create a seperate account for that, by registering an e-mail address.

deed it and found only one "quite good" workaround

http://pearlin.info/mailweb/fix-for-missing-dependency-libttfso2-is-needed-by-package-nagios.html#

to install rpmforge from redhat

I supposed sme8 based on CentOS5 equivalent with RHEL5.1 i386(not 64bit version)
and I issued the appropriate code

Code: [Select]
rpm -Uhv http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el5/en/i386/rpmforge/RPMS/rpmforge-release-0.3.6-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm
smooth install

tried to put again the nagios - the same error

also
Code: [Select]
signal-event post-upgradeand
Code: [Select]
signal-event reboot
the root password is not working any more
I need to "crack it" from console (later time cos I'm not near that testing server)

Cactus

you sent me to one wiki webpage not to the bugzilla page
I don't get how can I modify the wiki webpage from bugzilla
if you expected to report one problem on bugzilla, for me the appropriate guideline was "please report it in bugzilla".
From your answer I expected to put it under "not working" in the wiki page
probaby this is to high for me and I don't understand the mechanism

I did not sen you anywhere. I pointed you to a page (and the exact section) that explains what you where to do if you are installing contribs on SME Server 8.x (when it is in beta stage) as I pointed you to the test guidelines, which indeed say to report a bug in bugzilla. Apart from that I also explained to you in my post. The link was only pointing you (and others) directly at the instructions.

So once again, please report it to the bugtracker.

Larieu:

Here's the URL for requesting a bug tracker account: http://bugs.contribs.org/createaccount.cgi

A quick peek at my SME 7.4 and 8.x systems shows:
 - libttf.so.2 is provided on my SME 7.4 system by freetype-2.1.9-10.el4.7
 - 'freetype' is excluded in the dag repository definition, to avoid conflicts with the version included in the smeos repository.
 - The SME 8.x repository does *not* have the freetype rpm (or indeed many rpms) that exist in the 7.4 repository.

The specific link you mention looks (to me) as though all it does is configure the dag / rpmforge repository on your system -- which you've already done from the wiki instuctions.

First of all I must repair an ambiguity

previously I wrote that I issued
Code: [Select]
signal-event post-upgradeactually I issued by mistake
Code: [Select]
signal-event post-install
signal-<TAB> post-i (instead of u) <TAB> <ENTER>
this is why the password was "broken"

that mean what I deed don't harm your server (only human mistakes are the worst)

ok now
after that the nagios don't install the same error - I'll raise a bug

cactus - please trust me that the link you provided it was may "start page" for my attempt - because of that I was confused

mmccarn
you are 100% correct in affirmation

I've looked on forum/wiki after post-install  and no any clue about what it does on your computer
probably I must write an new post for this to don't mess everything

The post-install event is run after initial installation to set up your system according to the settings you set in the console (such as IP numbers, admin password etc).

I'm also trying nagios. I'm building a centos5 system - perhaps I'll be able to compile it for us specially.

larieu & brianr

How about this freetype rpm for centos5.5 ?
http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/14430258/dir/centos_5/com/freetype-2.2.1-26.el5_5.i386.rpm.html

I do not have access to a sme8b6 at present so cannot try it.

Also refer to
http://learnonthejob.blogspot.com/2009/02/libttfso2-for-package-nagios.html
Perhaps the Nagios EL5 packages need to be installed to overcome the dependency issues with the EL4 packages that are available from
http://hosting.platiniumtv.ro/smeserver/contribs/michaelw/sme7/Nagios3/packages/
The maintainer would need to release these for sme8.x

Ok, I have got this working in SME8b6 now, details in here:

http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5539

PS - thanks Mary for the suggestion about using the dag EL5 repository - it worked a treat!
