Roundcube Updates?
« on: February 09, 2011, 02:26:56 AM »
Hi All,

My users all love using the Roundcube IMAP client installed from Dungog's contrib: http://wiki.contribs.org/RoundCube

They have access to Horde too, but most choose Roundcube because of it's simple, clean look, I think.

There are a few bugs with it, with the latest discussion on this thread here: http://forums.contribs.org/index.php/topic,45334.msg220032.html#msg220032
which suggests there may even be some security risks with the current contrib version.

The Roundcube contrib is installing a version from its beta days, circa 2007.

On 12th Jan 2011 Rouncube.net released version 0.5, a stable release. See: http://sourceforge.net/news/?group_id=139281&id=296168

Any chance of an update to the contrib? (It is beyond my abilities to put together...)

Are you using this contrib? If so, post your successes and failures here so we might see how much demand there is for this contrib.

Cheers,

Rishi.

I believe most are favoring SOGo or Zarafa these days and I know Dungog/Stephen is preferring SOGo these days.

Your best option is to raise a bug in the contribs bug tracker and post all the details including any security risks.

Roundcube and Horde isnt the same as SOGo or Zarafa, they are different applications.

Roundcube and Horde is webmail interfaces.

SOGo or Zarafa is collaboration applications with mail, calendar and more.

AFAIK Horde has this all as well... they are all web based Groupware solutions IIRC.

Indeed, and Roundcube has a calendar module in their planned releases, fact is Roundcube is not as mature as the others in the offering.

That is right, SOGo, Zarafa and it seems Horde all can do a LOT more than just webmail. But that adds complexity too. I think this is a case of sometimes "less is more"! Even if the "complexity" is just perceived by the user, it is real to them. These guys work in such a small team, on such a narrow task, they don't even need a calendar.

Your best option is to raise a bug in the contribs bug tracker and post all the details including any security risks.

Thanks, I'll give this a try, but I've only heard rumors really (about the security risks) and don't know what the details are yet.

Cheers,

Rishi.
