Dar backup takes 12 hours
« on: March 25, 2011, 10:42:59 PM »
I have a server with approx 358G data getting backed up to USB drive, and this takes about 1.5 hours - no problem with that. That drive is taken off site, but at night there is a backup to a NAS box. That is connected via a gigabit switch to SME. But that backup takes 12 hours. Why such a big difference ?

NAS is a Netgear Stora MS2110 (Client bought it and gave to me, not my choice).

The only difference that I can see between the two backups is the NAS one uses compression of 5, whereas the USB is set to zero. Would that be it ?

That could be the case, but network speed to the NAS could also be a bottleneck. Are you sure there are not more parties writing to the NAS at night while your backup is runnning?

Set compression to zero and last night backup only took 5 hours, sounds more real. Obviously the compression is taking it's toll.
