i read several threads in the board...but i don´t know wich groupware is the best for me...
can someone tell me the pro´s and contra´s of:

01. phpgroupware
02. twiggi
03. Sherpath Groupware

important:

-easy installation
-security
-scheduling with mail notification
-time management
-adress book

twiggi you have to pay for.  TWIG is a free download from http://http://twig.screwdriver.net/.  I've had it running since 4.11.  It installs pretty easy.  I don't have any other experience with the other products.  Now that 5.5 is loaded with the horde framework and imp 3.0, you might look at the horde products.  http://www.horde.org.   I installed kronolith 1.0 (calendar), mnemo (notes) 1.0, and nag (tasks) 1.0  last night to see if I could get them them to run.  The only issue is that you must upgrade to the 2.1 version of the horde framework, and follow the install instructions.  5.5 installs 2.0.  After the upgrade, and the installations,  the other programs worked right away using mysql.  Then I upgraded imp to 3.1

The biggest issue with this is templating the system to make it work with 5.5.  All the changes I did would be wiped away on a signal-event console-save.  But, my intent was to see if I could make the other programs work together.

I don't know if Mitel plans to add the additional components since they sell as a service TWIG.  But, if they do the initial work of upgrading the horde framework and imp to 3.1, then I may try my hand at making custom templates.

Hi, we tested several groupware-apps and now we are using twiggi in our office with more than 220 PCs for nearly one year.
We had never any problems with this product instead of his "parents" named twig. The advantage of twiggi against other groupware is the comfortable design (u are using the same gui and functions in all modules, instead of twig) and the "business-character" -> twiggi has several small advantages which u will like and dont find in other programs.
And for twíggi u have NOT 2 pay 4...!!!

It seems that there are 2 versions of twiggi available.  One with support that you  DO have to pay for, $95 canadian.  That is what I initially looked at.  There is also another open sourced version at sourceforge, that I missed.  So we are both correct.

have you been to myezserver.com and checked outthere version of twiigi? They have it templated and ready configured for the SME Server. Well worth a look at. You do have to pay but you also get support and upgrade options with them.

I have installed the twiggi rpm from http://myezserver.com/twiggi.html and paid the Ca$95 for it. The main point here is that twiggi itself is an opensource solution the same as twig and phpgroupware.

The phpgroupware looks interesting but when I 'played' with it, I found the screen was very 'busy' with too many icons and for the end-users I just knew I'd be creating issues.

Twig is at the other end of the spectrum and is almost featureless(presentation-wise) in comparison to twiggi. The group functions seem to be more refined in twiggi than in twig and based on these very quick reviews I figured that twiggi was going to be a simpler solution for me.

Importantly, the .rpm that is provided for the $95 includes a server-manager page for managing the twiggi users configuration and simplifies the installation of twiggi down to a download and run rpm installation. Whereas the others all require a bit more work to install and if you are time pressured then its worthwhile. On the other hand picking up twiggi from sourceforge.net is simple enough too!

I intend trying a open twiggi install later this week as I want to setup two iterations of twiggi on the same box for managing two different businesses and hence the twiggi.rpm won't suit.

Hi Tony.  For our commercial rpm release of Twiggi, if you simply want to share one Twiggi database/install between your businesses, Twiggi does support different defined e-mail 'from' addresses.  On my server I host two of my companies and my wife's company with one Twiggi install.  So three separate domains co-exist happily.

If however you want completely separate databases, this requires separate Twiggi installs and the GPL release suits this best.

As Michael is from Germany, and is the lead programmer, the answer is most definitely, YES.  Twiggi supports the following languages:

So far, the app I've seen that seems to have the best UI is Sherpath.  Very Clean and well integrated.  However, (doesn't it seem like there is always a however?) there are a few problems - at least one keeping me from rolling it out:

1) No integration between LDAP and Sherpath.  They are working on this, but it isn't there yet.  Right now you have to duplicate your accounts within Sherpath.
2) 90+% of the app is English.  Still, there are a few screens with some Frnech on them.
3) Help is totally in French.

With the LDAP integration, I would roll it out now and finish the translation myself.  It is not, though, so I have held off on groupware.

PHProjekt looks like a quite nice product as well, but the UI just doesn't appear to be professional/business oriented enough for me.  I really like the simple Helpdesk functionality, though.
