Vmware-server 2.0.2 brakes on update may 2011 (sme8b6)
« on: May 13, 2011, 01:51:48 PM »
Last night I updated a SME8b6 server running VMware-server 2.0.2. After that, vmware-server broke. The vmware init scripts leaves this error in /var/log/messages
Code: [Select]
May 12 22:10:19 mysmeserver VMware[init]: /etc/rc7.d/S19vmware: line 80: 2531 Segmentation fault "$func" "$@"It took a while to find this solution here: http://www.howtoforge.com/forums/showthread.php?p=255468

To get vmware server 2.0.2 running om SME8bX it was necessary to apply a patch, see this wiki page
http://wiki.contribs.org/VMware_server_on_SME8.0beta5.

I undid this patch by removing the added line in vmware-hostd. After that it works fine again.
It seems the glibc-2.5-34 patch is no longer necessary from now on (yesterday's update version = glibc-2.5-58).

I did not change the wiki page (yet), because I feel this needs confirmation first.

Thanks for your report. I have exactly the same results here on a fully updated SME8b6 test installation, using
glibc-common-2.5-58.el5_6.3
glibc-2.5-58.el5_6.3.
These versions are currently in "smeupdates-testing" repository.

I suggest to change the Wiki accordingly. If you have a chance please do so otherwise I can do in the next few days.

VMware don't seem to care much about RHEL compatibility - which is surprising considering it is the premier enterprise linux.
