RAID question
« on: August 16, 2011, 08:24:10 AM »
Hi All
I have never done raid with SME before, so i have a question. I have a brand new sever, i3 4gb ram & 2 x 2TB WD drives.
The server has been running for 24 hours, clean installation (SME 8 b6) when i check the "manage disk redundancy" i see the following:-

Currnet Raid status:
Personalities : [raid1]
md1 : active raid1 hdc1[1] hda1[0]
          104320 blocks [2/2] [UU]
md2 : active raid1 hdc2[1] hda2[0]
          1953407488 blocks [2/2] UU]
          [=>.............................] resync = 5.2% (102921856/1953407488)
finish=21247.7min speed=1448k/sec
unused devices: ,none.

Only some of the RAID devices are unclean.

Manual intervention may be required

My questions:
Why is the server running so slowly is this normal, will it come right once the resync is finished?
After 24hours it is only at 5% is this becuase the drives are so big 2TB or is there a problem?
"Manual intervention may be required" what does this mean?

Many thanks
John

IMHO this is a slow speed for a resync, offcourse it takes time to sync drives, thelarger the longer but the speed (a little over 1Mb/sec) is low. Current SATA drives do at least around 1.5 Gb/sec up to 3 Gb/sec IIRC.

My questions:

I doubt it, I think there might be something wrong with your drives, cables or configuration of the drives. What brand and type of drives are you using?

I suspect a misconfiguration in the BIOS.. raid1 rebuild with such an hardware should be faster, not less than 60/70 mb/s

I agree that a BIOS misconfiguration is likely.
