Share experience of 8.6b on Dell t110 or T310
« on: September 20, 2011, 08:51:09 PM »
I am about to order a server to use as a file server only in a small office - 6 to 12 users. As far as I can see from Dell and Redhat compatibility charts the Dell T110 and T310 are compatible. Anyone care to confirm they have successfully installed 8.6b on either of these and if so what processor and network card were used. Of course if anyone ran into problems I would like to hear about that as well.

I was just looking at this today, The 410 model was what I saw. Of course I may have missed others since I also was following Mitel's list.

Just installed on a T110 II and I did have to select the SATA AHCI driver to have the CD recognized.  After that, all went perfectly. So I *assume* 8.6b will work.

I've been running fine on two T310 for about 03 months now. Mine came with a four port ethernet + two port on the Mobo. They all use the same driver, and this has been a problem when I try to run the bridge interface for openvpn-bridge. Other than that, no problem whatsoever.

There are a lot of things you can say about SME and one of the most important and significant is "compatible."

It has run on everything I have put it on without exception.  I realize you are being careful and diligent by asking the question, but it's pretty hard to go wrong.  If you haven't already done so, just throw it on the box and go to town.  Though I will say my favorite way to implement is within a VM.

Ended up ordering a T310 with two disks no-raid. 8.0b6 installs no problem as the machine came out of the box.
