squid: "I didn't ask for squid."

Well I didn't even know I was running squid on my e-smith boxen? But I guess I must be. As of two days ago everything worked find.

Today I can't get into:
www.gentoo.org/index-packages.html

but, I can get into www.gentoo.org

This is the error I get.

The following error was encountered:

Connection Failed

The system returned:

(111) Connection refused

The remote host or network may be down. Please try the request again.

So I'm wondering if it is my box or the gentoo web site causing this. What say you all?

Must be the web site as I cant get in to it (111) Connection refused

,... and what if you are connecting to the wrong port ? As far as I know gentoo uses the bsd style "port's" for remote updating/insalling,...

Yes, you are right. The page in question though was just a list of available app's etc. I take quite a few hours to get a fully functional (varies with processor and ram) system, but what you end up with is a much faster, due to optimization with gcc via and a global make.conf file. Very app or component is compiled against this file.Peter wrote:
