Built in VPN PPTP external access
« on: January 27, 2012, 05:56:19 PM »
Hi.
Using sme 7.5.1, I can connect to VPN using PPTP, and get access to the internal network.
But how do I get the connected client access to outside, through my connection ?
Best regards

have you [prt forwarded PPTP on the router so it will work from the outside netwok the port for PPTP is 1723 but that port should point to a server or work station then map network drives from there after that you would have to map the ip address of the pc do like this \\192.168.1.20\share name that is just an example

In the VPN client on say Windows, did you tick the option
Use default gateway on remote network

Yes, that is what I describes in my question that works all right, but what I want is, to use my VPN, as a kind of proxy.

Mary:
I'm using it on Ipad + Iphone, and that gateway option is not available.
I have until now used my router DD-WRT as VPN proxy, and that did work fine, so the settings on the client should be ok ?

On my iphone under VPN setup I have
Send all traffic = On
Proxy = Off

It seems to work, if I browse with Safari it accesses the Internet via my server gateway (and gets blocked by Dansguardian if I try to go somewhere not allowed).

So are your settings correct ?

What is your actual problem, any error messages ?

Mary.
Settings on my Iphone is like yours.
As described, I have before used my DD-WRT router as VPN gateway, but I did disable that, and instead I forward port 1723 to my SME.
My SME is server only, and not gateway.
I have disabled the VPN server on the router, but when I enable it, I do get external access, but with SME as VPN server. If i disable VPN server on router, I do get internal access only.
On the router VPN passthrough is enabled separately ?
Using SME server as VPN server, should be independent of the router settings, as long as port 1723 and passthrough is set correct ?
Strange.
Loejf.

I take it that your router is your gateway then.
If so, have you configured the SME server to use the gateway IP of the router for external Internet access ?
This is done in admin console, Configure this server option.

Hi.
Yes, It was set.
But now, after a couple of reboots, of SME, Router and client, it all works
Thank you for helping.
