local network IP address visible

local network IP address visible

Should the real IP address of my PC be visible when it is behind a
SME 5.5 firewall? It is a clean install of SME 5.5.

On www.auditmypc.com I checked what info can be obtained about my
connection. The result is "The IP address you're trying to hide is 192.168.196.65"

Is it possible to hide this internal IP address? Is it supposed to be hidden?

Thanks,
Rob

As it's private address space and can be any network that uses that address space, don't worry too much about it. Unless of course someone on your internal network may find out your ip address.
Thanks for posting that link. I wasn't sure what was open on my box...

That depends how paranoid you are. By itself it doesn't give anything valuable away.

Chances are your browser has given away this information. There's nothing much the server can do to prevent your browser from giving away your personal secrets.

It is your proxy server that causes this to happen.
I had the same problem so I disabled it.  My internal ip was not visible anymore.
If you don't need it disable it.

Setting the proxy to non-transparent or disabe it made no difference.
I did the test with lynx, and the IP address does not show.

It looks like the browser is indeed giving away the IP address.
