File Share and Update
« on: March 09, 2012, 04:48:09 AM »
Hope you guys can help

SME 8B7 Server at Main Branch

5 x Branches with various Laptops and Desktops, Printers etc. (Windows 7, Windows XP)

Email from SME Server via DynDNS (Outlook Clients)

What the client wants is to have users connect to the SME Server and have a View of a Tree Structure of Folders / Files
The Users must download a File (eg: Autocad Files)
Make Changes to those Autocad / Word /Excel etc. files
Then " Upload " the changed files to the Same Folder on the SME Server
Problem is the User(s) do not Upload the Files in the Right Folder on the SME Server (I need to make it as simple as possible for the users to find files and folders)

I was thinking of getting the User(s) to VPN into the SME Server then Download the File(s) Required

However i need an App either on the Server or whatever to show the User(s) a Tree / File Structure as there are a lot of files/folders on the SME 8 server

Any ideas what the best way is to do this

Perhaps use the Webshare contrib works well for me.

edit: I should have added there is an update smeserver-webshare-1.0.0-10.el4.sme.noarch.rpm that resolves an issue with using it with SME server 8

If you are going to try and make it stupid proof.
Then you might want to create a php program to upload the file and have it do the work.
If the file being uploaded has the exact name of a file that is on the server. That should be easy for you to work out. Start by standardising your file names on the server.

I second the motion using AJAXplorer. It works perfectly at my church for the photographers. They upoad different images and such for different events. Furthermore, you can edit with ease, who has access to which ibays or webshare.
I don't know of a way to convert an IBay that is already in use to a webshare available for AJAXplorer. I had to delete each of my ibays and start them over using webshare and not IBay Creation. Maybe someone has a suggestion on that, but AJAXplorer is definitely the way to go
