SME and XEN
« on: May 11, 2012, 09:22:47 PM »
Im planning on replacing my current 2 box solution at work (1 box windows 2k3 sbs, 1 box sme 8b7)

I want to have as a riskier free solution as possible, which is why i want SME to manage my storage.

im thinking 4 boxes.
2 running sme, 2 running xen
I want to use the sme's as nas or iscsi storage for the xen boxes. I can then configure each xen vm to use the 2 sme box's as raid 1 drives.
I will backup the smes remotly as i do now with affa, not the vm drive files but run my own sme, win 2k3 and others on the xen boxes.

Im assuming the xen boxes need high end processors and plenty of ram, and im assuming the sme boxes can use lower specs but lots of drives. Im thinking 8 x 2tb per sme.
I currently run 2 xen servers in data centres using hardware raid and much prefer the way sme works, i have much more confidence in it.

But should i go another way?

...thinking 8 x 2tb per sme.
You might consider HDD re-syncing as it
could take many days ...possibly a week+.

james, if you can afford 4 boxes, I suggest you to take a look at proxmox ve and its clustering feature
