SME & CMS - which to choose?

<< < (2/2)

dave simmons:
Tried the Joomla install from the contribs.

Install runs fine, but when you log in, the menu system throws up a load of errors, and is unusable.

I see that the contrib is made for SME 7 so I guess it's outdated.

Can I just download and install Joomla from their website without breaking anything/compromising security?

Thanks in advance.  :)

DanB35:
My writeup on installing Joomla! 3.3.6 on SME 9.0 is in the wiki here: http://wiki.contribs.org/Joomla_3.  Once the software collections contrib reaches a more stable state, I'll probably update the wiki writeup to advise doing it that way.

I'd expect the same procedure would work for SME 8; the only issue would be the version of PHP.

That's great!

We've got some spare public IP addresses so I'll install a SME9 machine to run it.

Thanks very much!
