How do I setup Wireless configs
« on: October 28, 2012, 11:48:45 PM »
Been using SME server since back when it was called Esmith but have never done anything with wireless on the server before.

Wanting to try something different. A friend of mine uses a cellphone data card to access the internet. The card gives them 5 devices. Which is not normally a problem, but they already both connect their cellphones, laptops and xbox to the connection and when I come around I use my laptop. Which can lead to duplicate ip conflicts if the xbox is turned on while I am connected.  Since I am setting up an sme server so that I can store some media, I want to use an sme server to set up another network and let all the devices go thru the 2nd network so that we can have as many as we like as in the next few months a Wii will be added to the network. Yes I know that a wired connection would work better but for now the data card is the only connection available for the next 6 months or so. Plus I am curious in if it can be done.

I picked up a SMC  wireless router for $3 at a yard sale a few weeks ago. I can connect to the network and can get an ip from the sme server. I just installed sme 8 on an old compaq. It has an onboard nic, additional nic(will probably pull this card or disable the onboard card for simplicity) and wireless card.  During setup it recognized the wireless card but I dont know how to manually configure the wireless setup on the it and add in the password/key.  Is there a contrib to do this via the server manager ?

The server will be taken to a wired connection in a day or 2 so that I can run updates since it it a cell connection and for now I need to limit the amount of data that is used. Also is their a contrib to limit data usage so that one machine can not go over x amount of data during transfers ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks in advance
