DHCP problem
« on: July 26, 2002, 03:25:23 AM »
I am having a small problem with my dhcp services and this has happened on two different servers of mine.  I occassionally get a small power outage that last for like a second at most this shuts down the server and when I turn it back on it can connect to the internet but It will not distribute ip address to my lan.  I seems to almost turn the card off.  I cant find any rhyme or reason to fix it some time is I turn on and of the surge protector that my hub is plugged in to this solves it other times if I move the posistion of the card on the board thsi solves it and some time waiting like 2 hours will bring it back.  Any one else expereincing this or are my computers possesed.  One other thing when I turn on the computer or restart the computer it says that the dchp services where started.  This is driving me nuts.  I have now installed a 8 min UPS system to keep it from crashing like that but I would like to know why this is happening.  One other note I reinstall 5.5 once when this happened and it did not solve the problem.

This is just a stab in the dark but could it have to do with the leases on the client machines still being valid?

I use very short lease times on my server (30 mins) for other reasons but this might speed things up.  Otherwise just renew the leases manually.

BTW I have the opposite problem: when I have a power sink my desktop box (ATX power supply) reboots but my server (AT powersupply) absorbs the sink and keeps going - pretty impressive.
