CentOS 5 default php-5.1.6 and php5-cgi

(1/1)

SchulzStefan:
Hello all,

forgive me for a stupid question: the default php-version on CentOS 5 is afaik 5.1.6. The zarafa-people ship zarafa only compiled to this default php-version. Doesn't it make sense to have something like the php5-cgi for this version?

no.. zarafa's people are right.. they know that the default php verion during the whole life of centos5.X won't change, so they are sure their product will work.

if you need a more recent php version you have 2 choices:
- install zarafa into a plain centos5 (virtual) machine
- use another web server (i.e. another SME/centos machine)

this approach comes from RH, aiming to stability, reliability and security

SchulzStefan:
That's clear so far.

SME 7.x came with php 4.x. With the php5-cgi we were able to install i.e. zarafa. My question is, isn't it possible to have beside the php 5.3.3 the default CentOS 5 php on a SME server? Maybe with the php5-cgi contrib?

Why? What do you want php5-cgi for? What problems are you trying to solve?

SchulzStefan:
I know (and use) the php53-mapi. But I would like to use the default php-mapi from zarafa.
