Dial-Up to Bluelight Account
« on: July 26, 2002, 10:43:09 PM »
I would like to connect to my existing dial-up ISP w/ the e-smith server.
How can I login to the Bluelight server from my e-smith box? My e-smith box dials out and communicates but then disconnects. I currently have to run the "Windows" Bluelight.com connect exe on my windows machine to gain access. The tech help at Bluelight is not forthcoming w/ info regarding the logon init script. They tell me the only way to connect is by using their program, and my attempts at setting up a connection using a custom windows dialup script have also failed.

If this ISP seems like a dead-end, can you suggest a diffent one? My only option at this time is dialup service.
Any help is greatly appreciated,

Rob B

Rob,
You could try Firewire, they offer a pay-per-minute service which you don't have register for. Been using on our windows box without a problem (connects first time 99% of the time :o)). The number is 0845 088 0088 with no username or password.

You could also try uk2.net (if your in the uk). I don't recall the telephone number but its a similar service, check out http://uk2.net

I would like to use E-Smith to connect with a Dail-up a/c so I'd be interested in hearing how it goes.
Regards,
Matt

Rob and Matt

I have been trying to sort out the very problem you are having, except I have been having a lot of assistance from my ISP, that is Telstra Australia.

It appears that if you are assigned a static IP then the ISP system must have a reply of your IP address to connect up.  The e-smith does not supply this IP nd the ISP disconnect when it does not get the right IP address.

We are still working on it, but due to our lack of knowledge of e-smith, we are not getting far.

We need a e-smith guru to help here.  Even my ISP is stumped here.

A sure fix at present is to find an ISP that has a DHCP connection.  They are fading out fast.
