Can receive but can't send

Can receive but can't send
« on: July 30, 2002, 01:10:23 PM »
I can recieve incoming requests for webpages and mail (i.e. they are delivered normally) but the e-smith box doesn't recognize that it is on the net.  When I test the connection I get the "Internet Connection Failed" screen.

I can recieve e-mail from the outside.  I can see my webpage from the outside.  I can send internal e-mail.

As far as I know I have all of my settings correct - I am doing something right if info can get in, just not out.

I am using it in server only mode, I have a Nexland router as the gateway and connect through DSL with a static IP.

Ideas?

Thanks!

Have you tested DNS?  Try to ping something by name, then again by IP.  Check your resolv.conf and make sure your DNS is correct.

I've seen the same problems on 3 e-smith boxes located on an ADSL network.  The symptoms are that  access from the internal network to the internet will fail, but the box will be visible from the external network.

To correct this, I have to ifdown then ifup the interface, and do a restart on named.

I too, would love any suggestions, as I have run out of ideas.

Sounds like it might be a hardware or driver problem with your local network ethernet NIC. Is the same type of NIC used in all your three boxes? If so, what is it?

Have you reported your problem to bugs@e-smith.com? We can't promise to fix your problem but we have little chance of doing so unless we know a problem exists.

Charlie,

I don't think it is hardware, I've seen the same problem on two separate networks, both using cable. The internal network works fine, and as previously stated, the external interface works for delivering mail. It seems to be a routing problem. The nearest thing that I can figure out is that it happens when DHCP goes to renew the lease on the external interface. A restart of the server always solves the problems. On the machine in my house, I even did a clean install of 5.5 to replace 4.12 on the server, but the problem persists. It has quieted down in the last few weeks (it has happened only once), but before that was happening daily for 3 weeks. I suspect it is on the other end, rather than an E-Smith problem.
