SME Server evolution: NethServer
« on: May 09, 2013, 04:41:37 PM »
NethServer is an evolution of SME Server, which updates the technical foundations while maintaining the core principles: easy to configure, stable and secure.

NethServer is built by a group of experienced SME Server users, it's open and released under the GPL.
While many core features are unchanged, the server-manager interface is new, modern and user friendly.
NethServer 6.4beta1 has been released yesterday.
It's already used in production, even if it's still named beta, because some features still need more field testing.

More informations can be found on the project website: nethserver.nethesis.it

While this is exciting, this is more of advertising.  Discussion of your product as it relates to SME is probably okay.  This just seems like it is meant to draw people away from SME and to NethServer.

Hi Stefano,
from the developer point of view the template and event system has been retained. It needs a little effort to adapt one package from SME Server to NethServer and vice-versa.

From the admin point of view we support a simple migration procedure that requires only a full backup of the SME Server system.

We are forced to use a migration strategy because a direct migration between RHEL major versions is not supported. This problem has been discussed on the devinfo mailing-list.

Filippo, this is so far off-topic it isn't funny and it is counterproductive to what we are trying to do here, which is maintain SME Server is a viable distribution.

Please reconsider making off-topic posts like this so we don't have to start pulling the Moderator card and moving and/or deleting your off-topic posts.

Thanks,

Greg
