Group Voice Mail
« on: June 18, 2013, 06:24:31 PM »
Hi All,

I recently asked about group voice mail in his thread:

http://forums.contribs.org/index.php/topic,49812.0.html

But I've come across a problem with this setup  :-(
Because each extension has it's own DDI number they are now getting each others personal voice mail as well as the group messages
So is there a way around this? Can an extension have access to two different mailboxes?

Regards,
Del

Hi Del

Could you not just set up a generic extension purely for VM and then users can dial *51* for that mailbox only.

Hello Del

An single extension can monitor more than one mailbox but it can't have more than one for mail delivery.

Kind Regards

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the info.
Is this possible if I purchase your commercial version of SARK? Or is SARK the same as SAIL?
I am trying to replicate what my old BT Versatility did with the group voicemail.

Del

You'd have to start by describing what the versatility did first I think.

On the Versatility each Group has its own voice mailbox and each extension has its own voice mailbox.
Every extension in the group can check the group mailbox.

Example of the BT Versatility -
Lets say 'ISDN 1' is set to go to 'Group 10' . If no one in the group is available or the call goes unanswered then that call will go to the Group 10 voice mailbox, every extension in that group can then check that voice mailbox (they also get a message indication on the handset)

If each extension has a DDI number, then those calls if unanswered/busy will go to the extension voice mailbox, that extension can then check its own voice mail (the extension will also get a message indication on the handset)

Only reason I asked about SARK commercial version is in the datasheet it says "Group mailboxes" so I wondered if this was an extra feature it had over SAIL.

Regards,
Del.

SARK(and SAIL) can do exactly what you've described.

Any extension can monitor multiple mailboxes  - look at the syntax for the "mailbox" entry in sip.conf - in sark it is in the asterisk tab for the extension.

you can set up a group mailbox and have everyone in the group monitor both it and their own mailbox (yes, their mailbox lamp will light when either mailbox has new mail in it).

You can send DDI calls to extensions and they will go to the extension mailbox if unanswered

you can send  group calls to a call group (call it whatever you like) and if unanswered you can set the outcome of that call group to a "group mailbox".

A "Group mailbox" is just an extension which has a device type of "mailbox".  i.e. it is only a mailbox; it has no physical extension.

To retrieve the voicemail for a group mailbox; use *51*.  Asterisk will ask you for the extension number and then the password.

Sorted

Great. Thanks  8-)
One last question regarding this - Will the extension know which mailbox (group or its own) has the new message?
Or would they need to check both mailboxes to find out? (Versatility displays 'Group Message" when its the group)

Edit - Would it be possible to program a BLF button to monitor the "Group mailbox"?

Thank you, I've also read on Yealink's site that they can have more than one VM account set up so I may just get a couple of those.
