torrentflux problem

(1/3) > >>

blana:
Hello,

I have just installed a fresh copy of sme server 8 and I've been trying for some time to get torrentflux to work with it. I did not succeed, so that's why I'm writing this here, hoping to get some help from you guys. I hope I'm in the right forum.

I'll describe the steps and the problems as good as I can:

The first thing i did was activate some old repos from sme server 7. Then I installed torrentflux, folowing the instructions here:

http://wiki.contribs.org/Torrentflux

I also dug out and installed the perl-XML-Simple and perl-XML-DOM packages, from the same old repos.

Torrentflux installed to /opt/b4rt/
I chowned / chmoded the folder (b4rt) to www:www / 777, recursively, making all the files and folders r/w by the www user.

I opened the web browser page, and torrentflux' web interface works just fine. I went to the settings page, to set it up propperly. The first 3 fields were checking out ok (green light), but the rest were all red, all of them saying "File exists but is not executable".

Since the guide from the link above says not to worry about errors, I didnt and I proceeded to trying a download.

The download did not work, as you expect. The behaviour is this: i try to upload a torrent file, but when i do, nothing happens, the file does not appear in the list.

I didn't give up. I copied the torrent file manually to the server in the /downloads/.transfers folder, hoping they would show up in the list. They did not, but what happened is that suddenly, the attempts to upload files were marked in the activity log - which did not happen before. More, the upload errors were all displayed with the name of the torrent i placed manually on the server, even if i tried uploading different torrents. I tried placing more torrents manually, and the activity log pops up all those names as errors, even if i try to upload a single file.

The message is: "ERROR: INVALID TRANSFER: SME-Linux-Server-v8.0-i386-based-on-CentOS.iso[www.tuxdistro.com].torrent"

Please help.

Thanks in advance.

stephdl:
you can try to use transmission http://wiki.contribs.org/Transmission it is not a contribs, but you have too a web settings/downloads area which is nice.

I think that torrentflux is no longer maintained since 2008, so you can have some issues.

blana:
Thanks for the info. I will try it out since it seems I am too unskilled to make tf run...

Anyway, its a shame that such a good contrib has been left unsupported. It used to work well with sme server 7, i wonder what changed since then.

stephdl:
The issue is that the main software is no longer maintained, not only the contribs...looks http://sourceforge.net/projects/torrentflux/files/torrentflux/

blana:
Yeah, i saw that, but if you ask me the last version works just fine and has a lot of features, the only thing that's changed is the sme server version - and somehow they just dont work well together anymore. This fact I was referring to as "a shame". I was hoping someone else tried tf on sme 8 and managed to get it to work.
