Click to dial with Outlook contacts
« on: September 16, 2013, 05:53:38 PM »
Hi All,

Is there anyway to get to dial a number directly from outlook contacts?

Regards,
Del

Hi

Yes, we use a German product called Xtelsio (www.xtelsio.com).  It has a plugin for Exchange/Outlook   It is not opensource so there is a licence fee for each desktop you run it on. If, on the other hand you are using office365 over a browser, there is an Australian product called Noojee-Click.  It is an ajax based product which will tag anything in your browser window that looks like a telephone number.  Click on the tag and it will be dialled.  It's free to download and works with Firefox and Chrome but not IE (last time I looked).

Kind Regards

S

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the info, I also came across this during my search:

http://www.theteletrigger.com/

Works with the phone rather than Asterisk and is compatible with most of the popular sip handsets.
Demo videos are here:

You might also want to check out Activa for Asterisk, see http://activa.sourceforge.net/. It integrates with Windows' TAPI system which means that most TAPI-aware applications, e.g. Outlook and ACT, can dial.

I've not had a chance to test this with SAIL but it will likely work.

Struggling to get ActivaTSP working but xtelsio seems to be working OK. Anyone got any experience with ActivaTSP? If so would you like to share your experiences?

I may have spoken too soon, my testing was done using internal (extension) numbers in Outlook contacts, it seems that it doesn't want to dial external numbers  :-( I keep getting a message saying "You have dialed incorrectly, please make sure that your number always includes a country dialing code and two zeros" Seems like it is ignoring my Asterisk outbound roots  :-o So it's back to the drawing board for me  :-)

Sorted, :-)
Under Dial Settings>PBX System I had Outside Line Access code ticked and it was set to dial a zero
Just got to get ActivaTSP working now  8)

Nice one 8-)

Activa is completely free so a good choice for SAIL. Other than the issue with dialling out, are there any other SME-specific "gotchas" which you found during testing?

No, it took me a couple of attempts to get the manager.conf right but nothing else really. I still have to get it to popup my outlook contacts, it does pop up in it's own little window but I would like it to open my outlook contact if possible.
As for Activa I thought that it would be fairly straightforward as I know the manager.conf is now correct but I can't get it to connect to my server, I'll let you know if I get it working.

I got the Outlook contacts to popup by following the instructions on this site:
http://www.xtelsio.com/hlp/en/client/and/outlook.htm
Still only popups up the contact in it's own window, I was hoping for the actual outlook contact window to popup, maybe that's too much to ask for  :-)
The problem I'm having with Activa is in windows  I can now connect to my server but when I try to use it I get a message saying it can't write to the registry, try logging in as admin which I am logged in as! I've had enough for today so I'll get back on it tomorrow.

ActivaTSP is now connecting to Asterisk and I can dial my contacts from Outlook, helps if you type in the correct password

I came across this program:
http://www.identafone.com/poppro.html
Now the Outlook contact window pops up on incoming calls even if Outlook is closed 8)

My conclusion:
Xtelsio is good and is fairly easy to configure, I think the interface looks a bit dated and I couldn't get it to open the actual outlook contact window
ActivaTSP was not really any harder to configure than Xtelsio but again it doesn't popup the Outlook contact, in fact it didn't popup at all (for me at least). It doesn't have it's own toolbar button to dial from Outlook like Xtelsio, but it is opensource which is a bonus.
IdentaPop Pro doesn't have a TAPI driver so you need an Asterisk TAPI driver to use, such as ActivaTSP.
So for me the best solution seems to be ActivaTSP and IdentaPop Pro, you can dial your contacts from Outlook and the Outlook contact window pops up on incoming calls.
If you only want to dial from Outlook and your phone supports Tele Trigger then that is probably a good choice, no Asterisk configuration is needed and the cost seems reasonable at $9.95 per seat.

Del
