Topic: Struggling with Roundcube calendr

Hi Folks,

I'm struggling a bit with the Calendar in Roundcube. According to everything I've read, there should be a Caldev settings page just off the Calendar settings page, but I don't have one. I'm trialling SME 8 to see if it's going to fit my requirements, and was hoping to use Roundcube as the webmail interface, but with shared calendars (not just the invites facility).

I've not unearthed anything in the forum, and would be grateful of any help or pointers.

I'm not keen on the Horde email interface, though the functionality is perfectly good. Roundcube is nicely uncluttered. It has to be un-intimidating for very non-techy users

I'll take a look at SoGo, but I was going to wait until it's less buggy (I'm not keen on too much 'under the skin' config editing. I'll put it on my 'to look at list'.

i'm wondering if NoTo is looking about a caldav calendar which is not provided by kolab on this version, and a shared calendar which is not provided by roundcube, but by the backend of kolab.

Indeed the version of kolab plugin is 3.0 and match with the roundcube 0.9.5.

The only solution could be to install kolab 3.1 but it only works with roundcube 1.0 which is in a "early" beta status and it needs also centos6. Therefore for now i do not have solutions except if you need these features (a caldav and shared calendar) to try a solution with zarafa or sogo which are real groupware software.

Roundcube looks more for what it is made, a webmail with funny and useful plugins

Thanks for your help. It looks like I will have to try Sogo or Zarafa then, but the install is a tad scary. Might as well try while I am at testing stage.

Sogo is maintained by nethesis an italian compagny which are currently developing a  fork of sme server, of course stability need to be improved for it, and i wonder if this package is still maintained for our distro.

I think that sogo will be maintained on nethserver, and you should take a look to zarafa. There is a script to install it but if you want you can ask, or propose a rpm to install it.

That's splendid, thankyou stephdl  I think I can probably get working with that script and not mess it up.

Google has kindly translated the firewall-service website and I'm reading it now

Did you install & try dimp & mimp (variations of imp, the default webmail client) ?
yum install smeserver-dimp --enablerepo=smecontribs
yum install smeserver-mimp --enablerepo=smecontribs
signal-event post-upgrade
signal-event reboot

Select the required version when you access https://yourdomain.com/webmail or IIRC you can use a specific URL with mimp or dimp on the end.

Either of those should give a cleaner & minimalist look & feel.

I'd tried Mimp, and that looks great for web browsers on mobiles which is really useful 

Dimp I wasn't aware of (not listed in the Contribs section, unless they call it something else there), but I've just installed it and it's an improvement. It's not quite there, but I think the different functions organised into neat tabs might just be enough to garner approval from some of the older users. I'll test it out on the more 'difficult' 77 year old, and if she can use it. If she can, we're pretty much there

...unfortunately Horde has fallen flat on it's face due to a basic functionality flaw in the calendar - the seven users share their calendars with each other and have a preference to look at just one calendar, with each users appointments and reminders in a different colour. That's not possible in Horde without using categories (they always forget to set a category). I'll press-on with Zarafa later today and see if it has that feature.

All sorted after presenting the older users (the more difficult ones) with the options. Hands-down winner was - I hate to say - Google Gmail/Calendar for email and calendaring. They particularly liked that they could enter appointments in a logical way such as "Meet with Mary 11.30am" and the calendar would take care of entering the appointment accurately into their default calendar. My only concern is the way Google tend to close-down services at near-zero notice, or worse still integrate them with Google+ and default all the data to "absolutely publicly available"  But I have a balancing act of reliable/manageable IT and managing user expectations - if they like it, they use it, etc.

File sharing duties are still a choice of SME8 or a simple NAS appliance, like the QNAP devices. I like that I can backup a QNAP to an external drive and still have access to the files direct from that drive in the event of server meltdown. But that's more what makes me happy rather than them, as accessing a share for them is the same either way.
