[SOLVED] problem with http
« on: January 03, 2014, 10:11:12 AM »
Hello at all,
I'm a admin on our network at school. I'm also a teacher.
I have a problem to connect on sme 8 with moodle, roundcube or webmail : sometime it works , sometime not.
My domain is http://csjl.fr.
i notice this is a recent problem . I work with these applications for a long time without problems .
( may be after my upgrade on 21 december 2013, with php.5.3.3-14.el5.sme ? )
i have a look on logs and nothing strange appears. When i connect to my primary, http://csjl.fr : i have a 403 forbidden error or a 404 no found error.
Is everybody have this problem and resolved it ?  or can help me ?
thank you for your help.

I can connect to your Moodle site OK. Maybe ask your ISP.

With "http://csjl.fr/" I have 403 error "You don't have permission to access / on this server."
With "http://www.csjl.fr/" I have 404 error "The requested URL /moodle/index.php was not found on this server."

I think that there is a misconfiguration on SME...

i do not understand well, when i follow the url http://csjl.fr/ and http://www.csjl.fr/ obviously i have 404 and 403 errors but moreover i have this message below which comes from a debian server...
Apache/2.2.22 (Debian) Server at www.csjl.fr Port 80

Surely it is not the smeserver who give this message

I tried accessing again with both URLs & got errors.
As I said earlier,
"...... ask your ISP."

There may be issues with DNS resolution. eg a DNS server is slow to update its records etc.

You really need to tell us about your server, how is it configured (mode), are there other servers or firewalls on your LAN/WAN, do you use a special gateway IP for internet access, have you specified a particular server for DNS resolution, how is the domain configured in Domains panel (Internet DNS server or Resolve locally), what conttibs are installed etc.
Have you checked for faulty or loose cables etc, even swap them to be sure.
Are there any cron jobs or time related events that you can correlate with times of access or no access. Who is your ISP ?
Please search before asking, an answer may already exist.

Now
http://csjl.fr/
resolves OK to your Moodle site
I do see a message
Un instant, s'il vous plait.....
before the site appears, what is that & why is it happening  ?

With
http://www.csjl.fr/
I get this message
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/2.2.22 (Debian) Server at www.csjl.fr Port 80

PS IIRC Moodle has the site URL embedded into it's configuration settings, so you cannot access Moodle with different URL's

Yes , this message is on the /primary/html
in this little file  i put a message and a re-direction to moodle

My server is gateway and server  ,   only one server   , i use  a static IP : 193.251.185.154  ,  Dns resolution is done by server  at 192.168.0.1 , resolve locally ,
i have these contribs  : moodle , phpsysinfo , grr , nut , phpmyadmin , dar , webfiltering, lazy admin tools, logon script , round cube , one cron job run with moodle to update the site  ,  My isp is orange. Ouvaton is the registrar.
Ididn't change any things in my settings

Another thing strange : If i try https://csjl.fr , i can access to the main page without presentation but i can access . the same for contribs like roundcube.

Idon't understand .

Why ? What server is that ? What is the LAN IP of your sme server ?
Is this DNS server the Debian server referred to in the error message ?, refer earlier post by stephdl & myself ie "Apache/2.2.22 (Debian) Server at www.csjl.fr Port 80"

It seems you have another server responding to that URL on port 80, so it does not surprise me that you are having resolution issues.

Maybe not, but (I assume) you did do a post-upgrade & reboot after the last update.
This may have enacted some configuration change you inadvertantly made earlier, that was not yet active.

in france it is 15h27 and the website is available trough http://csjl.fr/moodle/ and with some errors when you use https://csjl.fr/moodle/

there is a redirection when you use http://www.csjl.fr/moodle/ to  http://csjl.fr/moodle/

What was wrong ?

The problem was due to a change of platform at ouvaton.coop (our domain host)
For some days there were two IN A records for csjl.fr : our IP (193.251.185.154) and Ouvaton's IP (213.152.29.60) that had been added automatically during the change of platform.

The extra IN A record has been deleted and it works again.

Thank you all for your tests and advice which helped to understand the problem.

Best regards

i put resolved in the title

Indeed It was that "dig any" command says...two A records
