OpenVPN SiteToSite - Can ping server but not browse shares
« on: February 26, 2015, 02:42:48 PM »
Dear All,

I am running 2 x SMEServers  (Both SME 8.x) with all relevant updates connected using the OpenVPN SiteToSite contrib.

   Server A (Work) --------------- OPENVPN --------------- Server B (Backup)

Everything seems to work as expected in as much as -

I can ping ServerA from ServerB and vice versa
I can ping workstations behind ServerA from ServerB
I can ping workstations behind ServerB from ServerA

When I log my laptop into the network controlled by ServerA I can ONLY see the local network. I can ping the workstations and ServerB but I cannot browse their shares etc  ....  (and Vice Versa)

I am note sure if this is a bug, OR if I need to set up my laptop to allow me to do this OR if there is a further configuration step that I must make.

I have added the TCP/IP address range of ServerA as a local network to ServerB and Vice Versa but that has not helped.

I hope that my question is clear.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Mudra

I have one session of site to site running. What I found I had to do was search for the server by clicking on the start button and entering "\\server ip" and hitting enter. I was then prompted for a user name and password, and I clicked on the box to remember. Then it would display the remote server, and I was able to map driver.
Hope this helps.
If you think you know whats going on, you obviously have no idea whats going on!

I am pretty sure that when I try \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx in explorer (windows 7) -  it goes away for a long think then gives me an error that I do not have permission to access the IPC$ share.

I will try this again when I am in the office tomorrow and will report back if this helps.

Thanks for the tip.

Mudra.
