Certificate Problem After Update Today
« on: February 12, 2014, 05:46:01 PM »
I host a couple of websites on my SME 8.0 server and after the Yum update today, clients say they are getting a certificate error when accessing the sites.  I have a self-signed certificate.  What is the best way to resolve this issue quickly?  Thanks!

It's possible that the certificate is normally renewed after one year after installation (as is normally on standard SME)?

Extend your self signed certificate life with these instructions

Thanks, Janet

Before I try this, I should say that I purchased a SSL certificate from GoDaddy today but their installation instructions do not seem to apply to SME. I did find this link  http://bssennoga.wordpress.com/2011/11/22/how-to-install-an-ssl-certificate-from-godaddy-onto-your-sme-server/
I am wondering if these instructions are still valid and if I would be better in the long run to install the GoDaddy??
Any advice appreciated.

Seems OK but I did not test or use them. I think there were instructions posted in these forums a year or a few ago, so search on GoDaddy.

That's you choice. Better in what way for the long run ?
If you purchased the certificate then you might as well install it now.
It's an easy way to prevent users getting browser warnings, so it's up to you to decide if there are enough users who are having problems & whether you need to resolve these issues in a "better" way.

Thanks, Janet.

I will attempt to install the certificate tomorrow and report back in hopes that my experience can help others.

The best way you can help others is to write up the GoDaddy install steps to a Howto on contribs.org,
see C for Certificates here
http://wiki.contribs.org/Category:Howto
& a similar example here
http://wiki.contribs.org/Certificate_Integration_startssl.com_Server_Certificate

Create the same style of Howto for a GoDaddy certificate.

Search the Forum too as I 'm pretty sure something was posted here previously.

I was successful in installing my GoDaddy SSL certificate.  I appreciate the help.  I have never written a "How To", but I might give it a shot.  I am very grateful for the wonderful support on these forums.

I copied those earlier mentioned steps (untested by me) to here
http://wiki.contribs.org/Certificate_Integration_GoDaddy_Certificate

Please check & see if they are accurate & are what worked for you OK.

You can edit & make corrections etc, but you need to request wiki Doc Team access, look in your Forum user profile & select the option. Someone will advise you when access is enabled, then you can login & edit.

Have fun, creating & editing wiki articles is very easy once you master the basics, just open & edit other Howtos to see what formatting commands etc are used.
Edit & Copying an existing Howto & modifying it to suit, is an easy way for beginners.

Thanks for the head start.  My actions were a bit different because I was installing a certificate for the first time, not renewing a cert.  I will attempt to gain permission and edit to cover my steps.
