Filesize limitations on e-smith

I have been watching e-smith from version 4.1.2 but the limitations are still there. Recently I installed e-smith 5.5 and tested the filesize-limitations again.
The max filesize in an Ibay is still 2 Gb and the max "Backup to desktop" filesize is 4Gb.
Does enyone know when they bring out a version of e-smith that doesn't have these limitations anymore.
Linux is supposed to be better then Windows but Windows has left these limitations behind a long time ago.
I can not understand why the guys of Mitel do not go for a higher kernel-level so they can make an end to this limitations that make e-smith just not reach the professionel level. I understand that this takes time but I have been watching e-smith from version 4.1.2 and if they did not solve this problem by now, they probably do not think that it is a big problem.
I would like to use e-smith as a file- and backup server.
When I want to backup my Windows-XP workstation, I get a backupfile of about 4,5Gb. So I stumble on those limitations. Does anyone know if they are working on a e-smith 6.0 Alpha version or so because they will probably go to a higher kernel that probably does not have these limitations anymore.

Why not play with Version 5.6alpha? It is at:

Have you tried using a file splitting program. Create your one big backup file, then split it into defined sized chunks that match your limitation or media. The command line split.exe (v10) or Visual Split Studio if you want a Windows interface both work OK for me.
If it is a repetitive process you can create a small batch file to do the automation.
Splitting & copying to ZIP disks & CDR's works fine for me.

What platform are you creating the 4.5Gb file on, how are you doing it ??
