Microsoft-world&C compatibility is a feature that works "natively" only with OpenChange + Samba 4 so it's not an option for Sme, at least in the short period.
I've not completely clear if OpenChange is totally free.

Authentication: is the your an install from scratch ? It seems something like this http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7269 even if in a new install sholuld all be ok.
Which version of your smeserver-sogo package ? The right one should be 1.0.1-1.el5.nh.
Take a look to httpd logs too.

Im still just looking at sogo itself via the browser atm. It is an install from scratch yes. I could build a new vm for testing if you think that is the issue. Im unsure what version of smeserver-sogo I installed. how would I find out?

nicolatiana:

should fit for you

Installed Packages
smeserver-sogo.noarch                   0.6-1.el5.nh                   installed

is the answer. which looks to be wrong

nicolatiana:
mmmm . .. .
there's something wrong in the fact that the repo has not "sent" the last package . . . .
I'll put an update in the bug http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7269.
At this stage, considering that I think your install is not yet critical You may try to remove all packages (sogo too), download last smeserver-sogo rpm and try to install the Smeserver-sogo package from local together with sogo and dependencies from repos; something like:

--- Quote ---yum localinstall smeserver-sogo-local-downloaded.rpm --enablerepo=sogo,epel
--- End quote ---
