VirtualBox contribs - which one?
(1/1)
DanB35:
I see a couple of recent pages on the wiki dealing with VirtualBox:
http://wiki.contribs.org/VirtualBox_4.0_on_SME_Server_v8_beta_6
http://wiki.contribs.org/Phpvirtualbox
Although the latter's title suggests that it only deals with installing PHPVirtualBox, it seems to cover installation of VirtualBox itself as well. It certainly looks like a cleaner process--no need to manually create config files and such. Is there any reason to prefer the process in the first link? If not, it might be good to change the title of the second page to specify that it also installs VirtualBox, and/or add a note on the first page that it's been superseded by the second.

Please wait for Stephane to clear your question. But SME V8 Beta 6 was a long time ago and Stephane has been working very recently on the howto of phpvirtualbox. Please be aware that there are rumors that there are 'issues' with the authors of the phpvirtualbox project. Not with VirtualBox itself.

ps. Please be aware that it is full mid season vacation time in Europe. Responses may be delayed for weeks.

If you need only virtualbox on your smeserver you can install smeserver-virtualbox but you may need smeserver-phpvirtualbox which gives easy the management. It is a known fact that phpvirtualbox is not really maintained.
You can see issues without answers in sourceforge.
I need maybe to solve an issue on smeserver-phpvirtualbox given by compsos recently, it will be done as soon as possible.

Thanks for the info. I thought I'd seen some discussion here about an alternative web front-end for VirtualBox, but I don't see it on a quick look now.
Edit: Now I've found it, and it was you who posted the reference to RemoteBox. Obviously you're much more on top of the matter than I am.
