hi
sorry for taking so long i have been busy with other server hardware problems  (not related)

I managed to connect a USB drive and the backup worked 100%

Re-setup the configure workstation backup - to a nas drive and a windows shared drive
and still get the same problem -

Seems backup directory is not really mounted. It should not happen.
            Verify availability of your backup volume. Stopping the backup now.
Backup terminated: backup failed - status: 7424

i can get the nas drive to mount, then changed the configure workstation backup  - mounted disk.
it identifies my mount but as soon as i save this setting it comes up with an error Invalid share name

That's the right idea, try connecting manually etc.
Now you get the error
Invalid share name

Is that the full & complete error, if not please post the complete message.

What is the share name, exactly ?

Have you tried changing the share name to something else, ie something short, that is less than 8 characters without spaces or hyphens etc.
Please search before asking, an answer may already exist.
