« on: August 08, 2014, 09:16:09 PM »
Hello World,

Sorry to Post here but there are no section SME 9 Contribs  :(

I actually use a SME 8.1 with zarafa in db mode enabled.

I want to make first a Full Backup of my SME 8.1 and restore to SME 9.

I've read How to install Zarafa on SME 9 http://wiki.contribs.org/Zarafa_on_SME_9 but nothing is write on How to do after a Full restore.

Thanks to Help Me or Update Zarafa on SME 9 Wiki

Following the same install instructions should be appropriate.

Note that after any sme server (full) Restore to a newly installed operating system of sme server OS, you need to reinstall any add on contribs.
The database & configuration for the contrib(s) is part of the Restore, so the newly installed contrib(s) should utilise the restored data & configuration settings.
This assumes that the contrib conforms to sme standards and that there are no significant differences between the contrib versions ie the contrib version running on the old (sme8.1) & new (sme9.0) OS versions.

I strongly suggest you do a test Full Backup of 8.1 & a test Full Restore to cleanly installed sme server 9.0 OS (meaning with no extensive configuration done), discover any issues & find suitable fixes if necessary, before doing an upgrade of your production server.

Thanks for your reply Janet.

Of courses I want to make some test before proceed on the real server.

But the Backup is really heavy and long to restore, and I prefer to have the right solution.

I've a doute with signal-event zarafa-post-install and I can't find a signal-event zarafa-post-update...

Thanks in advance

For test purposes, you can exclude large chunks of (say) ibay data.
Refer various suggestions here
http://wiki.contribs.org/Backup_server_config

Another approach to save time (if your disk array is software RAID1), is to remove the need for creating the backup by utilising the Restore from Disk method. It may need some testing/tweaking to check it runs OK with sme 9.

The meaning of that comment is not clear, please elaborate.

Maybe it is covered in the Wiki by:

After rpm install execute the following:

signal-event zarafa-post-install
signal-event post-upgrade; signal-event reboot

Thanks for your answer Janet.

I'm going to try that in the following weeks, and get my feedback here for the community.

Thanks Olivier

beckynet,

http://wiki.contribs.org/Zarafa_on_SME_9 is only for unix-plugin !  I don't think it is easy to change the plugin.

For installing zcp 7.1, installscript is here : http://wiki.contribs.org/Talk:Zarafa_on_SME8#INSTALLSCRIPT_.287.1.x.29.

Should work on SME9 too. Use the right rpms for CentOS 6. You won't need the php53-mapi.rpm.

Frifri thanks for your response,

I think that if I restore my SME 8.1 with his 10 users and after install Zarafa in unix plugin mode, I'm going to have 10 new empty store in the DB and 10 orphans store.

if I hook orphans store with zarafa-admin to the new unix users, all must be run fine. This solution is more easy in compare of export store to an outlook pst file.

But for this to work, we need the new installation use the backuped DB.
And to complicate this process the running zarafa (on SME 8.1) is a 7.0.5 and the destination (on SME 9.0) must be 7.1.10.

Do you think my thinking is correct ?

Thanks Olivier

I don't think the existing stores will be orphans, because with db-plugin all user-information is in the (restored) db.  But perhaps you can first unhook the existing stores and rehook them to the new unix-users.
Let me know if this is the case.

Changes from 7.0 to 7.1 : http://doc.zarafa.com/7.1/Administrator_Manual/en-US/html-single/index.html#_700to710
so, no changes in database. To be save, first upgrade to 7.0.13 and than restore the db on your new server with zcp-7.1.10.
