Does anyone know how to change the screen resolution of the e-smith server?

Problem: I run SME 5.1.2 at home from the closet (so I don't hear the noise) and without a monitor. But a couple of times I screwed up the system and I couldn't get to the prompt to reboot it remotely, so I had to move a monitor from the bedroom and connect it to the box in order to do some rootine checks and reboot the system. Tired of carrying heavy monitors back and forth, a friend gave me an old 14 inch monochrome monitor, which I know it works, but when I connect it to the SME box it show a blank screen. I just assume that being the monitor an old one, maybe it runs only on a low resolution. I tried 2 different video cards (one ISA and one AGP) to no avail (but both work with more modern ordinary monitors).
I also looked into the /usr/X11R6/ dir for some info but only contain empty dirs.

Does anyone have any lead?

I don´t think SME has problem with resolution because it´s just text!
I think you should to try to put your monitor connected to SME (and with power on) and turn on SME computer. You SHOULD to see screen or you monitor is the problem.

I had problems connection a small monitor (9 inches) to my SME when it was on: show nothing! After I shut it down , and connect monitor , everything works!

I hope this help you!

No need to shut down, just hit the shift key, to inactivate the screen saver.

Hi Charlie,

don't know how stupid I feel. I was just trying to check if the monitor worked without even connecting the keybord to the box...then after your message I tried with that and hit the shift key and ta da! Well, at least now I just have to move the keybord to the closet if something happens...which is resonable.

Thanks
