Samba 4 client against Samba 3 PDC - Possible ?
« on: September 12, 2014, 10:11:11 AM »
Hi
Among my customers I manage a network with Xubuntu 12.04 clients authenticating against a SME 8.1 PDC.
Last week a couple of inattentive users have accepted to upgrade to 14.04: as a result they were no more able to authenticate against SME.
Not a lot of time to troubleshoot (I simply tried to rejoin the client - no result) and not a drama to install from scratch 12.04 so I quickly did a new install.
Just to start understanding some more thing about Samba 4 I found a lot of scenarios about Samba 4 server but a few about clients.
Can we figure that a Samba 4 client has no chance to join to a NT-Style PDC or simply I've not found the right tweaks ?
In the mean time I'll try to build on Proxmox a test env.

Nicola

I don't know. I think a samba specific forum would be a better place to ask the question. Or ask google.

Nicola, I would agree with Charlie but, incredibile dictu (cfr http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Latin_phrases_%28I%29), Google seems not to have an answer..
try on samba's ML and, of course, let us know, TIA

I'd switch the Xubuntu clients to LDAP auth against SME, using sssd. No need to enabled anything on the SME itself, everything will work out-of-the-box, and for the clients, I have some notes on my wiki here https://wikit.firewall-services.com/doku.php/tuto/ipasserelle/authentification/ubuntu_sssd_on_sme (sorry it's in french, but I think you can find your way).
C'est la fin du monde !!!
