Affa versus BackupPC
« on: June 10, 2015, 07:16:03 PM »
Affa and BackupPC claim to be able to backup windows workstations as well as SME servers.

Are they able to backup the programs and everything so the Workstation will be restored with all programs operational like a Clone backup?

Currently I have been using www.redobackup.org program to do workstation backups, however by the time I need to restore I have usually missed saving a later program install, or printer install etc. I would like to be able to have incremental Clone backups if it is possible with one (or both) of the above?

Thanks,

Ken Graham

my 2c: "backup" and "windows" in the same sentence make no sense :-)

you can backup files, but forget to backup/clone a workstation
you'd search for something different, something able to make real hd images

all IMVHO

So it seems I am better to do a Affa backup to home for a duplicate capable Server.

A PCBackup to local drive(s) for easy restore of individual files or masses of file at work.

A www.Redobackup.org or www.clonezilla.org backup of workstations for hard disk images which make for quick restore of operating system and programs - this works very slowly on mirrored type systems so not advisable for server.

yes, you are right

yes again except that you can also backup and restore a smeserver with backuppc (i have never used it) but you have not the 'rise' affa powerfull function
A www.Redobackup.org or www.clonezilla.org backup of workstations for hard disk images which make for quick restore of operating system and programs - this works very slowly on mirrored type systems so not advisable for server.

it depends, it is slow but that would be a nice contribs....imagine for a guy working in the mass installation of OS.....that could save his time

I tried clonezilla on an SMEServer a few years ago and it barfed on the Raid setup. YMMV.
