Require php 5.3.10 for new joomla site
bradleyj00:
I am running SME 8.1, and I need to update php/MySQL in order to accommodate a new joomla site.
I followed these instructions, but my php did not update, so I'm not convinced I followed them correctly.

1. I'm thinking I didn't configure the new respositories correctly. I assume I simply copy and paste the text from the wiki to a root prompt? It seemed to go ok, no error messages were generated. How can I confirm that these edits are active?
2. Following this, yum --enablerepo=remi-php55,remi,epel update php\* mysql-server, I receive quite a lengthy list of dependency errors.
Hoping someone can offer a little direction?
Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim, I worry that You want to do is impossible, or you will have a server unstable. The howto you followed is for sme9, I didn't search for sme8, feel free to do so.
I'm currently explored the software collections but it is only for sme9 64 bit, no way for other architectures or versions

Thanks for the info! Is there an option to upgrade to SME9, or will moving to SME9 require a complete rebuild?

backup and restore, there's no in place backup procedure (it depends on centos/RH policy)

You can also do disk to disk, and affa I think - there is more in the wiki.
You will be much better moving to v9 in the long run.....
As Stefano say this was an upstream decision, not ours.
