As with all "dictators", they *think* they are invisible, and then one day, a wall comes down, a palace get's overrun, sons get caught, wives get expelled, money streams are frozen, friends run off and all of a sudden you're not the respected "leader" (god) anymore. Then the panic starts...

History shows that "empires" have been meeting this faith again and again. In geography, world politics or business world. That doesn't matter for the one ingredient is common in these scenarios, greed and the hunger for power by 1 person.
