Zarafa - multiple domains
« on: December 02, 2014, 06:02:50 AM »
Good day,

I have setup Zarafa on SME 9 64bit on a test server as per http://wiki.contribs.org/Zarafa_on_SME_9
All is working great so far thanks to all who worked on the Wiki.

Just need to take it to the next stage and be able to pick email from multiple domains.
Also in the webmail app and the Outlook Client would like to be able to use "send as" IE select domain email address to reply.

Has anyone successfully setup multiple domains?
Grateful for any tips or hints as how to get it to work.

Cheers, TDB

Hi,

multiple domains can be achieved with the DB plugin for Zarafa. The RPM you have installed is using the UNIX plugin, for single domains. So that will give you a pointer to do some research, and hopefully you can put it on the wiki. For a bit more info, please read the info from frifri here: http://wiki.contribs.org/Zarafa_on_SME8#Making_some_decisions_before_installing

That how-to contains a lot of background info on Zarafa on SME Server.

As for "send as", that is done within Zarafa itself using the permissions.

Hi RequestedDeletion,

Thank for that I missed that section as I used the wiki for SME 9, I will read.

Permissions? Is there a management webpage or manual command based?

Thanks for the info.

Yeah, we need to re-organize the whole zarafa sections

Within zarafa you need to grant permissions to be able to send a mail on behalf of another zarafa user. This is also referred to as boss/secretary mechanism like in telecom.

Hi RequestedDeletion,

>>Yeah, we need to re-organize the whole zarafa sections
If I get it to work I will try to update the SME 9 Zarafa wiki for others that may come down this path.

I understand delegating permissions to another user but I need for the same user - let me explain
Company has two domains
john@domain1.com.au
john@domain2.com.au
Both are picked up for and directed to the user john
When john replies he wants to be able to select which domain to reply from - with pop accounts in Outlook you can select which to respond as.
I could setup one account to use zarafa and another as pop and that should work, but would be much better to just have one email account and allow user to choice domain.

One other question with UNIX plugin as I understood this was to give seamless user updates zarafa <-> sme -<ldap> so adding, deleting uses is all down by web page?
Sorry for so many questions but really would like to get this working as a replacement for Exchange, with Exchange no longer being available with SBS - there is no simple way to provide seamless emails between PC, notebook, tablets, phones etc, etc.  Zarafa looks like it could work.

Many thanks

It works, including ActiveSync (Z-Push). Let's see if frifri has some time to answer some of your questions later today, for I need to sign off for now.

please be aware of the "free" version, that comes with 3 Outlook "CAL Licenses" and the open source version that does not natively support Outlook. Zarafa outlook "licenses" are cheap tho, and they need to charge for that for a Redmond company makes them to do so. So installing the free version will allow you to add additional (next to the 3 free ones) licenses very easily.

Hi RequestedDeletion,

Yes I have check the pricing and it is Ok if I can get to work with SME.

Some sites only need the free version with 3 Outlook connectors and rest pop.
Some need to paid the licence for the commerial version.

The only alternative I know that works is Exchange and without SBS (small business server) the cost is very high.
By the time you licence the software Exchange Server + CALS + Windows Server + hardware ~ $10K
Difficult to justify for small business of less than 10 computers.
And all users want to be able to use PC, notebook, tablet, phone etc with seamless access to email & contacts, what to do?

again thanks for your help.

Hi tdbsoft,

So, you want different From-adresses/aliases/identities.
This can be setup in the settings of Webapp or Webaccess. Send As Settings -> Here you can setup your alias email addresses.
I'Am afraid that Outlook expects you to type the alias in the from-field (be sure in spooler.cfg, 'always_send_delegates' is set to 'yes'  (always_send_delegates=yes)).

For people who used my scripts :

Code: [Select]
config setprop zarafa-spooler always_send_delegates yes
/etc/e-smith/events/actions/zarafa-expand-templates
/etc/e-smith/events/actions/zarafa-services restart
