Hello folks!
Just wanted to tell that I am running e-smith on an 486 SX 33 with an NE ISA ethernetcard and an ISDN modem and it works just fine. Its really a great piece of work.
I DID have some problems getting it to work with the ISA card tho but I thansk to this site and another linux bulletin board I got it working (yeah you guessed right, I dont know anything about linux). Ill try to write down what I did if it could help anyone.
First I had to use the dosutil program and tell the ethernetcard to shut of all the PnP wich involves both the IO, IRQ settings plus the settings for the TP/BNC (i told it to only use TP). Then I set the IO to 300 and IRQ 3 (just watch out so you dont get conflicts wich I had some problems with). Then I had to do some configuration in e-smith
in the /etc/conf.modules there should be a line like this
options ne irq=3 io=300
then you have to make it run with typing
/sbin/e-smith/config set EthernetDriver1 ne
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event console-save
/sbin/telinit 6
It was alot easier then I thought when I first run in to the problem. But I guess that is bcoz of my lack of knowledge. What I DO wonder is why they dont implement use for ISA cards in the console, is that to difficult?
Anyway e-smith seems to rock the world of gateways!
Best Regards
Bjorn
