R200 install on PCIE card - won't boot up without F1
« on: May 04, 2015, 07:17:52 PM »
I just purchased some Dell R200 servers to install SME 9.0 on.  I installed a PCIE Sata III card.  I can get SME to install to the 80gb drive on the PCIE card but cannot get it to boot up without hitting the F1 key.  I also understand that there is a problem booting to a 3tb drive if there is not some code installed in the BIOS to accommodate 3tb and the R200 did not have it.

So, it looks like I will have to have the 80gb installed for boot up and install the data on the 3tb.  My issue is I do not see any option to restrict the data to the 3tb drive. Is there some way in SME 9.0 to tell the installation to use just the 3tb drive and ignore the available space on the 80gb drive?

Thanks.

is Dell R200 fully compatible and certified for RHEL6?
is the PCIE card supported by your server? I mean.. is it a Dell part or not?
is the PCIE card certified for RHEL6?

if the answer to any of these three questions is yes, you are in troubles and we can't help you

I guess I am thoroughly confused.  Don't understand what the "compatible and certified for RHEL6" has to do with it.  All I wanted to know is whether SME 9.0 can boot up on one drive and dedicate another drive for all of the data.

Sounds like an inquisition about rights and authority.

ok..

first of all, english is not my native language..

SME comes from CentOS that comes from RHEL.. you should always buy only certified/supported HW

anyway, install SME on the small hd, then follow this howto:

That is a very different question from the title you chose for this thread.  The best answer to this question is that it's possible, but SME (in any version) isn't designed to work that way.  You'd need to do the install to the 80 GB drive (with the 3 TB drive out of the system), then install and format the 3 TB drive, move everything in /home over to that drive, and configure the system to mount that drive at /home.  There's some information on the wiki that could help you, and if you're reasonably comfortable with the Linux command line it shouldn't be too terrible.  But if you're looking for a pushbutton method, there isn't one.
