Topic: No Internet Access

I downloaded smeserver-i386.iso and installed SME server 9.0 and all is well except for one issue. There is no internet access. The green light on the nic card is fine indicating a physical connection and I tested the cable by plugging it into a workstation and went right to contribs.org no problem in the browser.

The ip is simply 192.168.1.90, 255.255.255.0, and uses the same router which all other devices use on the LAN 192.168.1.1

The domain was <myname>.local and it was installed as a server only as I will be using it strictly as a file server.

I cannot ping the sme server at 192.168.1.90 from a workstation 192.168.1.8 on the same LAN which, of course, does ping the router and contribs.org just fine.

The IP setup is fine, the NIC card works, and the physical connection is good.

I would sure like to use this SME server. I really like its simplicity. It's a winner. But I can't get it to communicate on my LAN. Any ideas?

What makes you say "the NIC works" when 192.168.1.8 cannot ping your server at 192.168.1.90 when they are on the same LAN? That doesn't sound like "works".

Also, your subject says "No Internet Access", but I think you mean "No networking". Is that correct?

When you log onto the console as "root", and do:

netstat -Ieth0

what do you see?

ethtool eth0

?
