Topic: upgrading and adding a hard drive

I'm running ver.4.12 on a 40gb hd. I want to upgrade to the current version and add a scsi raid array for the operating system.

The question:

I can mount the 40gb hd after I install the array and e-smith, but what will be on the hd? I have my i-bays, some data in user files, and other various stuff. What about the old e-smith install? Do I need to delete the e-smith stuff? How do I clean up the drive without reformatting the thing?
