A local charity who I installed and SME 9.* server in, have gone ahead and installed the problematic Samba.

I followed the instructions for downgrading Samba alone, which did not resolve the issue as it still rolled back to a bug version. Then I noticed the announcement on the suggested routine to roll back the updates.
yum history undo <ID number>
Selected the offending update, but sadly got this:-
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Trying to remove "e-smith-base", which is protected

I have left it there, and thought I better get some advice.

I did try this as suggested on an earlier post:-

yum downgrade samba\* libsmbclient to
3.6.23-25, which gives you the same problem

Just wanted to make sure I was not messing things up further.

There's no libsmbclient on SME9 (only on SME8). I doubt downgrading samba to a previous version would lead to any e-smith package being removed. Please show the exact command you typed, and the error you got

Problem still existed, so found the article about rolling back the update.
