I need to manage single user mail settings to fight spam particularly strong. In Sme version 9 there is a useful contrib (email management) but I need to do the same in version 8. Can I use it?

You should upgrade to SME9, SME8 will be end of life shortly.

gromit60, please upgrade to SME9 and install sogo (or, at least, sieve features)
this will give you the possibility to create custom (at user level and delegating this activity to the user himself) filters.. these filters will work EVEN if you don't use sogo itself.
