Migration: selective migration using Lazy Admin Tools
« on: March 04, 2017, 10:02:22 PM »
I've added a section to the LAT (Lazy Admin Tools) wiki page describing how to transfer user accounts, user files, and user email from your old SME8 server to a new SME9 server:

https://wiki.contribs.org/Lazy_Admin_Tools#Server_Migration

Janet asks in another thread:

Does using lat, transfer the machine accounts ?

Good question.

 I don't know; I've never used a SME as a domain controller.

You could run lat-dump -d on one of your servers then look for the machine accounts in one of the output files.  If you find them you'd know that they're being dumped, at least.  The associated restore command should (hopefully) restore them,

From what I know I would say no ! I have no machine to test this. However if somebody is able to provide the relevant files I would be happy to update the contrib the way I did for the shadow file.

from what I understand there is something to do with
/etc/samba/smbpasswd
/etc/samba/schannel_store.tdb
/etc/samba/secrets.tdb

not sure however if machine accounts get their way in accounts e-smith db or in shadow but I would say no.

I would say however that just copying those  files should be enough, and might also be necessary.

Were you able to log in with samba without copying those files ?

Thanks for creating this thread.

lat-dump: is the size of the output essentially the total of the information bays plus user directories, and a bit more for user and group data?

No - lat-dump creates text files containing only the contents of the SME db files - 40k in my case. None of the server data is included.
