I would be most grateful for any advice on removing the SoftEther contrib. It is a bit more configuration that we can handle today. We want to try the L2TP contrib, and I want to clean up the server. We plan to continue to learn how to use SoftEther.

I think this is needed to back out SoftEther:
1. remove the template fragment in /etc/rc.d/rc7.d/S79vpnserver
2. remove vpnserver from the opt directory
3. remove port forward rules
4. signal update and reboot

That's about it.

Thank you for the uninstall instructions. I added, in the wiki page, a line to clear the vpnserver directory of content.

I realized as I went through the removal steps that we did not understand the need for installing the bridge component. It was not installed and may have been where we got stuck. This is something we need to learn more about.

It isn't a contrib if that is what you mean. However it is used by a lot of people.

I'd like to try another solution to PPTP but on IP/L2TPD there are a warning:
Code: [Select]
Note:
Server MUST be in Server/Gateway mode for this to be enabled

I usually have a firewall in front of my servers.
It's just because I use to have dual links on all my servers (no single point of failure)

There are any ways to make it work in server-only mode even if I have to redirect ports ?
Or should I just disable VPN solution on server and use it at firewall ?

Thanks

At the minute the short answer is no.

I need to look and see if it can.

I'll post back in the next few week as I am away on business

1. Read the Manual
2. Read the Wiki
3. Don't ask for support on Unsupported versions of software
4. I have a job, wife, and kids and do this in my spare time. If you want something fixed, please help.
