no ppp0

Hi
I can't seem to get ppp0 up and running.
I added the rpm e-smith-dialup-0.1-1.noarch.rpm.
Using this module I can here the modem dialup and try to access my ISP.
But when I do ifconfig -a there is no ppp0.
How do I get ppp0 up and running??
Does this need to up and running before the modem dials out?
And if it does how do you do this.
The modem is PM560LKI set to /dev/ttyS2.
Thank you for your time.
John

You'll see the ppp0 interface when the link to your ISP is up & running.  There most likely is a username/password problem ...

Thank you for your advice.
To solve the problem I used this solution:
I placed this string in the /etc/rc.local file.

/bin/setserial /dev/ttyS2 uart 16550A port 0xf800 irq 9

Thanks Bruce Friedman.

I also added the e-smith module, modem dialin.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
