scan to email without encryption.
« on: January 28, 2018, 11:11:48 AM »
Hi Ive some users who have photocopiers that they were able to scan and now have become useless due to the fact ISP's now require email encryption.
The machine had standard authentication but passwords and traffic is not encrypted. The firmware of the machines cannot be upgraded and its become useless overnight.

Ive considered setting up a SME server with non encryption and using a site with dynamic IP address but may come across issues as the users scan to GMAIL accounts.- Gmail may reject the emails due to non encryption and random or suspect non commercial IP address.
Its a pitty to scrap these good used machines (10) just because they cant scan to email.
Any suggestions regarding how I maybe able to get around the problem possible with a SME box?
Thanks

Gmail does not require encryption in transit on email.  It flags messages that weren't encrypted, but it doesn't block them.  However, the IP address could be a problem.  One way to get an idea of whether there's likely to be a problem is to set up that SME server, then test it using mail-tester.com.

The issue might be rather the ISP blocking the connection to gmail on port 25 while the copier only is able to do so and can not use encrypted connection on other ports, and the ISP might also have removed non encrypted connection on its on server on port 25. This is what I understand from the first message.

Is it the situation?
