problems from static ip to dynamic
« on: September 16, 2002, 07:58:56 AM »
I recently changed my server from a static dial up service (telstra) to a dynamic cable service (telstra) and subscribed to dyndns.org. I am receiving mail from the web to the LAN ok (so dyndns is working) however I cant get mail from the LAN back to the web. Can anyone help.

Is Telstra blocking port 25 (or whatever the SMTP port is)?  I know Optus do.

Cheers,

Thanks Andrew but port 25 is wide open. Telsta on closes one port in the high
50k range.

Paul,

Did you find a solution?

I'm having a similar problem with my server not synchronizing IP addresses with dyndns.org. I have to manually update the ip address in dyndns.org to get the server back online. This obviously affects my incoming and outgoing mail. I have DSL service with SBC that gives the server a dynamic IP address.

If you found a solution, please give a holler!

Thanks,
Justin

Just to let everyone know:
I found the solution to my ip sync problems in the forums at:

http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=15010.msg57571#msg57571

It was just a matter of changing a line of code to say "custom" instead of "dyndns" because I'm using MyDynDNS Custom DNS service from dyndns.org.

Set your smtp server to mail.bigpond.com in 'other email settings'
