Renaming the hostname of the Domain Controller
« on: February 10, 2022, 03:06:04 PM »
Hi all, been a while since I poked my head in here. Last year was kinda crazy. I've been experimenting with Koozali 10 and had a question related to Samba.

From my reading it should be possible to rename the hostname of an in-place domain controller while leaving everything else intact (joined clients, etc). https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2014-August/184323.html

My Koozali questions related to this:
1) Will Changing "Server Name" on the Configuration>Workgroup page accomplish this, or are more steps required?
2) How will this affect mapped Z drives of the clients? Will a simple relog update it for them?

I'm aware of all the issue related to anyone who might be referencing the old hostname, but not an issue in this case.

1/ it should

2/ depends if you map using domainname, hostname or ip
still you could probably keep both names resolved using dhcp if you mapped with older name and not able to change them

Thanks for that. Guess I'll deal with that when the time comes. FYI, the Z I'm referring to is the default mapping a user has to servername\username . I'd hoped that was handled automatically, as it isn't something I had to manually do for the users.
