Optus new instalation DHCP or STATIC
« on: April 10, 2022, 10:10:23 AM »
Ok, I have been here before and still no closer to install at the Enable the network screen modem has passed the info to the server but when I continue install it goes through the rest of installation, Configuring Your External Interface with the four options, I have tried all and my ip is static so I lean to that first but I still unable to connect.  this is a new 10 install
by the way draytek 167 in bridge mode

Please help

either we miss info, either they are here but not easily to identify when we do not know all the context.

what is your provider ?
what kind of technology (fiber, DSL, cable...)
what brand/model of modem ?
is it a modem on ly or modem and router ?
what your provider ask as setting ? MAC, auth?

what is the result of your setting ?
are you able to ping the internet ?
your lan ?
are you able to access to your server from the internet?

what gives ?
Code: [Select]
ifconfig
what gives ?
Code: [Select]
config get ExternalIP
note there is an open bug for static IP with a fix in smeupdates-testing : https://bugs.koozali.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11930

So Optus? NBN, what connection FTTP, FTTC, FTTN, Cable, I presume no sat or wireless involved

Edit: is the Draytek supplied by Optus? On a straight setup with Draytek in normal operating mode to a desktop PC/laptop do you have a connection

https://forums.koozali.org/index.php/topic,54642.msg286806.html#msg286806

FTTC

according to Draytek

See  https://www.draytek.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/DrayTek-NBN-Routers_0322.png

So issues may be evident

what is your provider ?  Optus
what kind of technology (fiber, DSL, cable...)  Vdsl
what brand/model of modem ?  Draytek 167
is it a modem on ly or modem and router ? Bridged
what your provider ask as setting ? MAC, auth? Not sure as Whirlpool says no need but in trial tried username copy Optus Modem VDSL MAC Address but if in bridge mode this is not able and can I insert at the first setup page in network settings?

what is the result of your setting ?
are you able to ping the internet ? No
your lan ? no
are you able to access to your server from the internet? No

what gives ?

So I install the sme10 at network connection turn on wan it collects info from modem then I run through the rest of install but when I get to the dhcp network selection or static it all goes pair shape

isp-modem-sme-lan

cheers

OK, so old post you said you had FTTC, now FTTN, it is important Mr Draytek says the 167 will not play on FTTC..

Setup in bridged mode the modem does nothing except move the electrons..the server provides the how and why for connecting. Static IP you will need the Optus gateway ip, if it is FTTN the username/password

Dont know what Mr Optus setups are, you may need the MAC address from the optus modem to use during the setup.

Not all Oz ISPS and NBN types allow a bridged modem...best to have a chat with Mr Optus as well

I don't think you can spoof the MAC address automagically with SME (at least not right now). I think you could potentially set it manually, but it will get overwritten on "ip up". It might need a special bit of templating down in /etc/sysconfig somewhere.

Probably the easiest thing to do is to try connecting using a desktop/laptop and finding settings that work.

Does it need a specific MAC address (has it been locked to the MAC of the ISP supplied router?)
Does it need a user/password?

Get the settings from the ISP router first and make sure that connects.

Then try a desktop where you can test the settings.

After that we can try and replicate them on SME.

With all the information I get it states that after using isp modem for first connection that you no longer need a user/password

Link Status   MAC Address           Connection   IP Address    Default Gateway
WAN1    Connected   00-1D-AA-8F-38-F5   DHCP Client   49.176.195.175    49.176.192.1

I have this info but when I enter it seems as it is trying I wait 20min and modem is synced but server no connection to internet

I do static ip in setup  asks for ip I give it 49.176.195.175 then asks for gateway 49.176.192.1 (or should I give the server ip here?) then range for lan 192.169.0.1-192.168.0.245 (server ip is 192.168.0.255)

By the way I am using ip that are similar to mine

Above you are using a DHCP client so at a guess you have a DHCP IP or a Static IP?

If it is dynamic you should run the setup with the WAN as a DHCP client. HOWEVER, that may not work if it needs a specific MAC address - they probably have some sort of block on any packets not originating form the correct MAC, even if they are from a static IP.

Let us know what sort of IP you have first.

he is on a static...there is a previous thread where I pointed him to some whirlpool discussions..in particular Optus and bridging

Dreaytek setup is going to be critical

as you are trying dhcp you should really update with the package i pointed earlier, you wont’ be able to use dhcp without it.

I thought this had been resolved (put into the latest distro for download?) or this cp -a /etc/dhclient-exit-hooks  /etc/dhcp/dhclient-exit-hooks
still needs to be incorporated during/after install?

neither of those

please do
Code: [Select]
yum update e-smith-base --enablerepo=smeupdates-testing

doing a cp -a is not a proper verification
as long as it is not verified, we can not published it

so you have an occasion to be the one who verify it, if th eissue is really about the dhcp
